Hoy, un alto cargo ha rechazado la idea de lanzar el producto en UK, por lo que mucha gente ya se plantea si llegará a venderse algún día fuera de Canadá.
Todo empezó con un rumor suscitado por un mayorista americano, anunciando que una nueva consola de Nintendo saldría a la venta. Se trataba de Wii mini, una versión reducida de Wii, sin conexión a internet pero con compatibilidad para la mayor parte de los periféricos de su hermana mayor.
Hace tres días vimos confirmada la noticia, pero no ha hecho falta esperar mucho para que nuestras expectativas se vinieran abajo de golpe. James Honeywell, jefe de márketing de consumo en Nintendo UK, ha dado a conocer que la compañía no piensa vender el dispositivo en el Reino Unido, por lo que el único lugar en el que sabemos seguro que saldrá a la venta es Canadá, donde se comercializará a partir del 7 de diciembre. En el resto del globo, mucho me temo que nada de nada.
Wii mini es compatible con todos los títulos de Wii, pero no con los de GameCube
El gran aliciente del nuevo producto es su precio: 99 dólares canadienses (menos de 80 euros). Un precio bastante jugoso si se tiene en cuenta que el paquete incluye Wii Remote Plus y un Nunchuk.
Por otro lado, la mayor contrapartida de Wii mini, al margen de la incomprensible ausencia de conectividad a internet, reside en la más incomprensible aún falta de compatibilidad con GameCube. Algo que como ya comentó mi compañero AlexM no resulta tan complicado de implementar y que además constituía uno de los rasgos tradicionales de los dispositivos Nintendo: la retrocompatibilidad.
Aún así, está claro que el catálogo no se nos quedará escaso, ya que aunque no se vayan a producir más juegos para esta plataforma, siempre podremos disfrutar de los más de 1.300 títulos que vieron la luz para Wii. Así que crucemos los dedos y esperemos que Nintendo rectifique y nos deje echarle el guante a este aparatito a nosotros también.
